Everyone living with optic nerve damage eventually asks the same question: can the nerve grow back? The honest answer today is that the optic nerve has very limited ability to regenerate, and no therapy has been proven to restore it in people. This page explains why, and what scientists are trying to change.
The optic nerve is part of the central nervous system. After injury, the cells that form its fibres, retinal ganglion cells, tend to die, and the surrounding environment actively blocks regrowth.
Most of these are in laboratory or early clinical stages. Success in animals does not automatically translate to people.

Realistic goals right now are to treat the cause, slow or stop further loss, and make the best use of remaining vision. Regeneration-focused options, where discussed, are experimental and offered only with complete transparency.

Excellent customer service and straight away got some improvement as my eye points stop hurting when i press them so and still on the healing process. Very experienced doctor and lovely people. Happy with it.

I came from overseas specifically for treatment. The staff not only assisted me with transport but also made the whole experience hassle-free. The medical service was of the highest standard and I was very secure in Delhi.
“Not in a way that is established as routine treatment. Current work is experimental.”
“No. Stem cell therapy is one proposed approach. It aims mainly to support nerve cells, and has not been proven to regenerate the nerve.”
“Do not delay treating the cause or monitoring vision. Early care protects the fibres you still have.”
