Optic atrophy — damage to the optic nerve that can result from glaucoma, ischemic optic neuropathy, hereditary conditions, or prolonged nerve compression — is a leading cause of irreversible vision loss, and specialized neuro-ophthalmology and regenerative treatment options remain limited across Uganda. For many Ugandan patients, access to advanced diagnostic imaging (such as OCT) and regenerative treatment is either unavailable locally or requires travel. How Stem Cell Therapy May Help
Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs), typically sourced from bone marrow or umbilical cord tissue, are studied for their potential to support optic nerve tissue health, reduce inflammation, and help preserve remaining visual function. The cells are administered via a minimally invasive procedure — most often through a retrobulbar or intravitreal injection — under the supervision of our ophthalmology and regenerative medicine team. This approach does not restore vision already lost in advanced, complete optic atrophy, but may help support remaining nerve function and quality of life in suitable candidates.

Travelling from Uganda — What to Expect
- Flights: Direct and one-stop flights are available from Entebbe (EBB) to New Delhi (DEL), typically 8–10 hours depending on route and layover.
- Visa: Ugandan citizens require a Medical Visa for India, arranged through the Indian High Commission in Kampala. Our team assists with the invitation letter and required documentation.
- Cost guidance: Treatment packages are quoted in USD; approximate Ugandan Shilling (UGX) equivalents are provided on request.
- Stay duration: Most patients stay in Delhi NCR for 7–14 days, depending on diagnostic requirements and the treatment plan.
- Language: All consultations and medical reports are provided in English.
